Speech and Language Therapy

Assessment

Initial Assessment with advice £150
Initial Assessment with summary report £200

Every child has an initial assessment for their first appointment. This will take place in your home and will usually last approximately 1 ½ to 2 hours. During this session I will take a detailed case history from you, the parent/carer. I will assess your child’s communication including their speech sounds, expressive and receptive language development and social communication. This mostly will take place through observation, play and informal assessment but more formal assessments may be carried out if deemed appropriate.

Following the assessment I will discuss my findings with you and my recommendations regarding ongoing therapy sessions. I will advise on strategies for you to continue with, to support your child’s communication needs and I will send a written summary of these in an email. For an extra fee I can write my findings and advice in a summary report. This can be shared with other professionals involved with your child such as your child’s school/nursery setting.

Therapy

Therapy session £68
(Payment by monthly invoice or block booking)

​​Following an initial assessment, I will recommend ongoing therapy input if this is likely to benefit your child. The sessions will last approximately 30-45 minutes, this includes time at the end of the session to feedback, answer any questions you may have, and provide suggestions/resources for home activities. I encourage you to be involved in these sessions. The therapy session fee includes travel costs (if within 10 miles of base), session planning, resource making and liaison with other professionals involved when appropriate (for example their NHS Speech and Language Therapist.)

The content and number of sessions is very dependent on each child’s particular needs and we will discuss this at the end of the initial assessment. Therapy sessions tend to be either weekly or fortnightly, and these can take place either in your home or I can deliver the session in your child’s school/nursery if the setting confirms they will facilitate this. When a session takes place in your child’s setting I will feedback to you afterwards. If we agree to a block of therapy sessions you can choose whether to pay for the block in one payment or to be invoiced monthly.

Autism Assessment

In addition to our Speech and Language Therapy services we can also provide comprehensive Autism Assessments for children and adults. These adhere to NICE guidelines and therefore are completed jointly with a clinical psychologist.

The assessment includes an in-depth report and detailed recommendations. These can support the individual being assessed, as well as their family, school, and employer.

We provide free initial screening via completion of an in-depth questionnaire, and you will have the option of booking an initial consultation to discuss whether a full Autism assessment is indicated.

As a multi-disciplinary team we are trained in delivering gold standard Autism assessments using the ADI-R, ADOS-2 and ACIA.

We seek to bring a compassionate, neuro affirmative and empowering approach to each Autism assessment we undertake. We recognise the significance of making the decision to undergo an assessment and we aim to create a formulation driven, validating experience for you.

Other services

Resource making, from £40
(Payment by monthly invoice)

Paper resources will sometimes be provided during therapy sessions and these are free of charge. I charge a fee for bespoke resources that take a long time to create and involve specialist software and materials e.g. a Communication Book. Any fees will be discussed and agreed with you prior to making the resource.

Setting visits/ Meetings £90

(Payment by monthly invoice)

These typically last 1 to 1 ½ hours. In some instances it can be helpful for me to observe a child in their setting and meet with staff to offer advice regarding supporting your child’s communication. Similarly If you have a multi-professional meeting arranged to discuss your child’s needs, I can attend to provide information regarding my input and findings with your child.

Additional update reports, from £50

If your child has been receiving ongoing therapy and their communication needs have changed, you may wish for me to complete a more up-to-date review report. This can be a brief summary report or a more detailed report, depending on your requirements. For a detailed report, an assessment session will be needed in addition, and charged at the usual hourly rate. The report fee will be discussed and confirmed beforehand.

EHCP Assessment and report from £350

(50% payment to be made at least 24 hours before the assessment, 50% invoiced after receipt of report)

If your child’s needs cannot be met by their educational setting then you may be in the process of requesting an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). I can complete a detailed Speech and Language Therapy report for this that will provide an overview of your child’s strengths and areas of need, along with targets and recommendations on the amount and type of provision your child needs, to support their communication. This can be included in your child's EHCP document, if you request this of the Local Authority. They will then ensure the provision stated on your child’s EHCP is provided, either via local NHS Speech and Language Therapy services or Local Authority funded independent Speech and Language Therapists.

It will include an assessment home visit of approximately 2 hours where I will assess all aspects of your child’s communication. We can divide this into two sessions if this is deemed more appropriate. If necessary, an observation setting visit or further assessment sessions may need to be completed. If this will increase the cost I will ensure we have discussed and agreed on this beforehand.
