Children's Speech and Language Therapist in Rugby, Warwickshire

About Me

I started working as a Speech and Language Therapist in 2014. Initially I was based in community clinics, seeing children for a wide range of complex communication needs. In 2016 I also started working as part of a multi-disciplinary team assessing preschool children for Autistic Spectrum Condition and Global Developmental Delay. I became familiar with offering emotional support to families on the pathway to diagnosis, alongside providing professional advice on how best to support their child’s unique communication needs.

From 2019 I spent 4 years I worked in a special needs school, supporting children from nursery to secondary-school age, who struggle with their communication due to developmental or physiological conditions. In 2023 I left the NHS and started my own independent practice; Affinity Speech Therapy.

In my independent work I enjoy keeping my caseload relatively small, so that I can dedicate more time and passion to each of the children and families I work with. I value working harmoniously alongside the NHS Speech and Language Therapy service.

Where?

I am based in my hometown of Rugby, Warwickshire. My practice covers this area and the surrounding villages and towns including Lutterworth, Barby, Kilsby, Crick and Binley Woods. If you are unsure whether I cover your location then please drop me a message to discuss this.

For an initial assessment I will visit you and your child in your home. Any ongoing therapy sessions can either take place as home visits, or if it is more convenient during the day, I can see your child in their nursery or school, with the setting’s permission.

Autism assessments will take place through online sessions and a face-to-face session in a clinic room based in Rugby town centre.

Who?

I have knowledge and experience working with children with the following communication needs:

  • Language Delay - A child typically under 5 years, whose understanding and use of spoken language is behind what is typical for their age group.

  • Developmental Language Disorder - A child with significant, ongoing difficulty understanding and using language.

  • Speech Delay/Disorder - A child who produces some sounds incorrectly when talking and this affects their ability to be understood.

  • Stammering/Stuttering - A child who struggles to produce words fluently; they may repeat, prolong or get ‘stuck’ on some sounds.

  • Autistic Spectrum Condition - A neuro-developmental condition which affects how a person communicates and interacts with the world, alongside restricted and repetitive behaviours and sensory needs

  • Language Disorder in association with another biomedical condition - A child with a developmental, neurological, genetic or chromosomal condition which impacts on their speech and language development.
